What does “inoperable” or “unresectable” pancreatic cancer mean?

“Inoperable” or "unresectable" pancreatic cancer means that an operation is not possible. In a number of patients that the tumour is still localised in the area of the pancreas (disease stage 3), these terms refer to the technicalities of the operation. Consequently, the term also reflects the skill-set and experience of the surgical team and may not be the same among the various teams. Therefore, an expert opinion from a panreatic cancer surgeon with experience in complex and vascular resections is crucial for the bext possible outcome.
